announcer: Get ready for your daily dose of marketing strategies and tactics, from entrepreneurs with the gile and experience to help you find success in any marketing capacity. You're listening to Marketing School with your instructors, Neil Patel and Eric Siu.
Eric Siu: Welcome to another episode of Marketing School. I'm Eric Siu.
Neil Patel: I'm Neil Patel.
Eric Siu: Today, we're going to talk about how to generate more YouTube search traffic. Lesson number one, easy, easy thing to do is use a tool like TubeBuddy. Install it. You can use vidIQ, as well. Those two are the top dogs in this space, but TubeBuddy will give you ideas on what tags you should be using inside of your YouTube video. To give you an example, we start pushing videos last week on the Growth Everywhere channel, and what we're seeing is we start to add more searchable keywords in there. Guess what? I'm starting to rank for keywords like how to hire marketers, for example. You use a tool like that, it's going to show you the volume and what's relevant and it just makes your life easier when you're using the right tags. Combine proper tagging with a tool like TubeBuddy, and you're going to be good to go.
Neil Patel: Upload a transcript. I know YouTube can automatically put in text for every word that you're saying on the video, but the moment you upload a transcript, I found that my rankings on YouTube drastically go up. It looks like they're using it to determine ranking, and they're not using the auto-generated text that they create for ranking.
Eric Siu: Then you also have to think about how can you write great titles. It's not the same thing as how you would write titles for an AdWords ad, right? It's different for each and every channel. The people that are on YouTube, are fundamentally different, so you can't just decide you want to capitalize every single thing in a title, and write something that's very rigid. You have to think about the audience. This is gonna come with time, writing great titles on YouTube. You have to understand your audience, you have to understand what content tends to resonate, and then from there you're gonna be able to generate more YouTube search traffic.
Neil Patel: Number four, make sure you're using amazing images. CTR is part of YouTube's search algorithm, similar to how it is part of Google's search algorithm. If your images are really appealing when people are searching, they click on them, they're much more likely to watch your video. Make sure they're professional. I know I have a lot of janky images on my YouTube channel. I have tested them, making them more professional. It does help quite a bit with click through rates, which has, overtime, boosted my search rankings on YouTube.
Eric Siu: Some of this stuff might seem counterintuitive. Neil's talking about watch time, and things like that. Well, I guess, to that point, we should talk about watch time, because that's what matters. YouTube wants people to, well, people to stay on their platform longer. They want people that, especially if they see a video that tends to keep them on the platform longer, you're gonna get benefits for that, right? If you can think about how you can retain people, how you can increase your watch time, you're going to start to get more benefit from YouTube. You're going to start to show up in suggested videos, which is not exactly search traffic, but you are gonna get a boost as well, overall.
Neil Patel: Follow those tips. I think you'll do quite well, and you will get more search traffic on YouTube.
Eric Siu: All right, so that's it for today. But, before we take off, we are going to give you a special giveaway of Crazy Egg, which is the heat mapping tool that's going to allow you to increase your revenue. We are giving away 90 days, that's $300 of value, so forget about the one week giveaway that we were talking about a month ago. To learn more, just go to the singlegrain.com/giveaway, and we will see you tomorrow.
