Eric Siu: In this video we're going to talk about six ways to exponentially increase traffic to your content. My name's Eric Siu, and I'm here to help you grow your business.
So let's jump right into it. The first thing you need to do when you look at your content, we're talking about written content right here, is you need to upgrade your content. So what do I mean by that? If you look at Wikipedia for example, when they first started, they had Abraham Lincoln as a page. That page maybe had 2-3,000 words or so. A couple of years later, 5,000 words, a couple of years later after that, 8,000 words. Today, maybe about 15,000 words or so.
Point being that search engines really like it when you continue to upgrade content, and sometimes they'll look at queries and they'll say that query deserves freshness. They like to look at things that are constantly getting upgraded because, well, things change in life, it's not always things are stuck in stone. People are always adding more data, people are helping out. This is why Wikipedia does so well, content is constantly being upgraded, people are constantly adding content to the site. And because the content's so good, people are linking to it.
When we upgrade our content, we're getting anywhere from 200 to 400% increases in traffic, and it's really helpful.
Point number two, you want to use paid promotion. So what do I mean by that? Look at the traffic that you have on Facebook, just go to Facebook Insights for example, look at the traffic that has a 10% engagement rate or higher. What do I mean by that? So you've got to look at any kind of click, any type of like, any type of share, that's considered an engagement, and you divide it by the reach. So if my reach is 100, 100 people, it's reached 100 people, and 10 people have engaged with it, that's a 10% engagement rate, you just divide the two.
You look at those that are doing well, just go to your Facebook Insights on your Facebook pages, from there all you need to do is this, spend $1 a day, hit the boost button, that's all you need to do. You don't even need to spend that much money boosting, and if it continues to do well, think about how you can take it even further, maybe start to spend $50, $100, $500, $5,000, $5,000,000. Whatever it is exactly, think about doing that.
So, the third point is making sure, from time to time, maybe you're doing a guest post on an entrepreneur magazine, or a smaller guest blog post, have influencers in your content. And even if you're doing it on your site as well, when you interview 25 people, you know, 25 experts reveal tips on hiring, for example, you have influencers in there, they're going to help you share your content. And these influencers, they have let's say 10,000, 20,000, 100,000, 1,000,000 followers or so, it's going to help you exponentially get more traffic and more awareness to what you're doing around your content.
Point number four, don't forget about the basic stuff, your social channels, email. I recommend using a tool like MeetEdgar, so you can constantly post to social media, you can have a library there and it's constantly scheduling for you. Edgar's great. And then don't forget about email too. I'll give you an example, for these YouTube videos that we're doing right now, what we're doing is we're just publishing them. What we forgot was that we have an email list, and we can push to the email list, these people like us already, so why not have them come in and help with ranking our YouTube videos more, and helping us get more traffic to our content ultimately.
So don't forget about those. It's basic, but a lot of people forget about this stuff. You have to have some kind of framework for this stuff so you can keep it going.
Point number five, don't forget to build links. I like talking about SEO a lot, but even if you're not building extra links, which is other sites linking to yours, think about how you can take the link structure you have internally, and you have internal links, right, you have one piece of content linking to a related piece of content, and they're all internally linking to each other. I'll tell you, for example, there is a site that we helped before, they didn't rank well for a keyword like learn web design. They didn't rank for that before, but when we put that keyword on their home page, and a link to a specific library on their site, they started to rank number one, number two. And then I think they're top three most of the time for a keyword like learn web design, so keep that in mind.
Point number six is repurposing. I love the idea of repurposing content. Well, think about it, when you buy a car for example, you're not just going to buy it and drive it for a month and then that's it, you're done with it. That's what is happening with content right now. People are paying $200, $2,000 for a piece of content, and they just post it, hit post, forget to social share it, forget to do all the things I told you about, and it just goes out there and dies.
When you have a good piece of content out there, let's say it's doing well, you did the paid social promotion, you're getting good engagement with it. Well, repurpose it. You have a blog post, make it a podcast, make it a webinar, make it a social post. What more can you do with the content that you have? You want to maximize the mileage on it, just like you want to maximize the use of your car, to regain the most value from that piece of content.
So, again, you have to have a process for this, you have to have a framework for repurposing your content, so it can go all the way.
And that's basically it, I mean if you want more tips like this on how to grow your business, just hit subscribe, and we'll see you tomorrow.
