Eric Siu: Hi, everyone. Eric Siu here, co-founder of the Marketing School Podcast and the founder of the entrepreneurial podcast Growth Everywhere, and today I wanted to share with you how I go about hiring great marketing talent. What I go about doing is, there's a couple of things I look at. Right? There are some marketing communities out there that you can go to, and there are some other sites you can go to. These are some general ways of how to do it. These are not the end-all be-all, but I just want to share a couple of tips with you, and we'll be on our way.
First things first is, we're going to go ahead and open up a couple communities here. We have growthhackers.com, and that's where people go to talk about marketing, they talk about growth hacking. Now, the interesting thing is, when you have these people congregating together, well, it makes sense to have a job board on there. Let's take a look at this. Right? Growthhackers.com, if we just go to the Community section right here, and if you go to the Jobs section, you can see that there's actually some jobs here. You can actually tell, if you look at the community, that the people that are talking there too, here's another hack. You can actually look at the people that are posting most, people that are writing the same content that's getting a lot of shares. Those are the people that you want to talk to as well. Right?
Because here's the thing. The best talent, a lot of times they aren't often looking for jobs. Right? You just want to get in a conversation with them. You might not pick them off immediately, but it does take time to kind of nurture that relationship and build that friendship. Right? Because it's not just a transaction, at the end of the day. That's not how hiring works. At the end of the day, people are spending eight hours of their time with you, so you need to think about how you can foster that relationship. Anyway, growthhackers.com right here. You can post a job. You can see Custom Ink here is looking for people. There are some other companies in here as well that are hiring, and I think if we try to post a job right here, let's look at the price. Okay. Well, you pay 250 bucks, and your job ad will run for 60 days, which is not bad, because on LinkedIn, you're paying 400 bucks. That's one way to go about it.
Inbound.org is another community that you can go to, so Inbound.org, take a look at this. I mean, we have different marketing jobs in here. You can see Senior SEO Strategists, Inside Sales Representatives. Oh, that's interesting. You can actually bring salespeople on. Same thing. GrowthHackers and Inbound, they're copying each other. 60 days for 250 bucks, which is not bad, again. Those are two ways to go about it. Right?
Now, the third thing that I'll recommend is going to AngelList. If you go to AngelList, AngelList has some great talent there. I mean, we've found some awesome people from AngelList, because AngelList is about kind of funding people, angel investing, things like that, but there's actually smart people that are hanging out on that site, and they have a recruiting section, and it's free to use. Just go to angel.co, and you can find out more information about it.
Finally, the last thing I will share with you is going to a LinkedIn. Let's say your team, you just hired some great people. You should always be talking to your team. Who should I be talking to? Right? Let's say I talk to one of my guys, and he's a pretty good marketer. I go to use LinkedIn, I find 10 people that are really good. Let's say I'm looking to hire a paid advertising manager. I'll go to him the next day and say, "Hey, these 10 people, of these 10 people, who should we be talking to? Who should we be trying to bring on to our team? Who should we be starting conversations with?"
It seems like it's a lot of work, but at the end of the day, if you're trying to bring on the best people, it's going to take time, and it's worth it, because the best people, once you have them all working with each other, I mean you have a team of A-players, they love coming in to work, you're going to get great things happening for your business, and you're going to be able to grow faster. Those are just four tips I have for you. Check them out. I'm sure one of them's going to work out for you, and we'll see you in the next video.
