Usability testing is something most companies probably overlook.

Agree with Mutiny, too - most clients want results *now* and have little regard for their future - if they need more work in the future, most will want to pay for it in the future!

Yep. Valid points but I also agree with Mutiny Design on point 5. I agree with Jan as well. 5000 visitors is better than 1000 visitors - but if you're having to purchase SEO work to get 5000 instead of 1000 it can be costly. Sometimes it's cheaper to improve conversions. You have to look at the whole picture.

Well, point 7: SEO. I'd like to cite this:

"1000 visitors with a 15 percent conversation rate has the same number of customers as a site with 5000 visitors and 3 percent conversation rate"

However, if you have 5000 visitors, you can always offer them something. Conversion rate isn't the most important thing because if people discover your site, they will link to it (yes, it affects your SEO in a positive way!), they will maybe spread a word about it, etc.

Additionally, you can always ask them "What do you want to buy?" through polls.

So in my opinion, 5000 visitors are still better than 1000 visitors.

I atronglt agree on your point number 5. The only problem is clients don't want to pay for the 'possible future' unless you have a proven track record of excellence with them.
